  • burn-out and or bore-out

Especially in this day and age, we are unfortunately familiar with illness due to burnout. With a bit of bad luck, many have had to experience this or have been up against it. Doing too much work too often in too short a time causes too much stress. Working days that are far too long because work is not finished. Or too much work for one person due to a shortage of employees. Also because of the pressure that the company’s turnover has to go up, but then unfortunately not the number of staff members. At that point, body and mind become exhausted and we do not get enough rest. Breaks are taken too short or sometimes not at all. And that while this is so much needed to recover in between. Subsequently, too much stress is taken home. Resulting in many sleepless nights. As a result, people become unable to work and are sick with burnout for a very long period of time. Recovery can sometimes take an unexpectedly long time. Sometimes up to several years!!!

    the bore-out

A somewhat less well-known phenomenon is bore-out. However, it is not unimportant to take note of it. Sometimes people think they have a burn-out, but it may well be a bore-out or the beginning of one. A bore-out is caused by doing work that doesn’t actually fit. Doing this work with little pleasure, while thinking it is okay. Unfortunately, one does not get mental inspiration from this. Too boring and one-sided work can also cause boredom. It bores strongly. When long tedious work is done, fatigue builds strongly. With the risk of people falling into gloom or even depression at some point. Work that does not fit or in which people cannot express their creativity does not mentally give the energy one actually needs. Again, recovery can take an incredibly long time.

keep an eye on team members

As a manager, it is extremely important to keep track of the team members in your company with whom this happens. And as already indicated, giving your team work that they enjoy or that is appropriate is still very important. It gives them more energy mentally and they enjoy working more. As a result, you create a more productive and enjoyable team. For instance, a team member suddenly making a lot of mistakes can be an indication of someone on the verge of a bore-out. Offering timely help is always is always good. This prevents a team member from sitting at home with a bun-out or bore-out. Other team members are not burdened extra with the work of the absent team members. In the end, you save a lot of costs with less stress!

  • the problem: my manager does not see me

the problem: my manager does not see me

A problem that is all too common. It can have several causes. But whatever the cause, it is such a shame when it happens to team members or even the whole team.

  • why team

In all our articles, we talk about team. But why team. Why so specifically talk about team. There is a reason. Of course, staff or staff is also good, but the point here is one of awareness. A team contains different people with different capabilities and different needs. And despite these differences, you desperately need these people. A team in which everyone is not the same generally functions better. On condition, however, that everyone is in their place and appreciated for it.

    In work situations

Just make the comparison with a sports team. Take a football, handball or a hockey team. One notable team member is the goalkeeper. A very important member of the team who can do a number of tasks excellently in this case goalkeeping, but does not really excel in other important tasks now. The striker, the person who lurks on behalf of the team to score the goal. The defender who helps the goalkeeper, but also creates space for the striker to score. In work situations, you find this kind of situation too. There are always people to be found with who like to work on new things, There are always people who like to tidy things up. There are always people who like to do what they already know and prefer to do as few new things as possible. When all these people are in place, they feel comfortable and often appreciated. And the team then functions optimally.

    up to a manager

It is of course up to a manager to recognise these properties. Even though that is sometimes not always easy to know exactly what people like. It comes down to your knowledge and skill as a manager here. And when you don’t see it or know what a team member is comfortable with to start the conversation and find out what makes the team member feel optimal. People who are well in place make the best work. So when you read our articles, you read about teams and about the people who make the team a team.

Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team of people‘.
