my name is not really Bink
My name is Bink Schippers. My name is not really Bink, but my wife (Annemieke) and friends have come to call me that. And they only mean it super sweet. In the nearly sixty years I’ve been on this earth, I’ve gained experience in retail, advertising, logistics, hospitality, management and communications. Of everything, I have seen the good and the bad. And with the critical eye I now have, I often look at the world just a little differently. Fortunately, I am not the only one with such a view. My dear wife has the same critical view. And that makes it so nice to shape this sharing of insights together with my wife.
effectiveness is a great thing
Growing up in the Rotterdam region, you learn to work the Rotterdam way. That is perseverance, but not just blind perseverance. Effectiveness is a great thing in a small country like the Netherlands and it certainly shows in a city like Rotterdam. On a global scale, the area of the world port of Rotterdam is small, but its achievements are great. That not going blindly on shows in constantly thinking about how things can be better and more pleasant. Preferably over a cup of coffee. Talking, cursing, laughing and trying to do things just a little bit more skilfully. So that you waste just a little less energy, time or space on it. And that is ingrained in the culture.
management and leadership
In this culture, I have seen and learned what management and leadership is and, above all, what it can do. To get to this effectiveness requires precisely good management and leadership. A good manager is not a manager because he or she wants to be a manager so badly. These people often stand out in a negative way. A manager has to make sure that people work in a good safe environment and from this basis achieve great performances. A manger must ensure safety, the right tools and a good working atmosphere. How super is it when you can do work at the least fine. This worked super motivating, by the way.
